Woodstock Pantry News Brief December 18
This weekend, we served 287 neighbors! We are serving every weekend this month. This week, we included some holiday fixings in the bags. Next week, we’ll serve pork ribs and chicken for a holiday meal! Thanks for everything you added this weekend!
Last Saturday, Richard, a regular at the pantry, gave us all a card. It felt so great to receive this! On the envelope, he wrote, ‘To all the Friday crew & volunteers (the Woodstock Warriors?!)’. I love the use of the term ‘warriors’ to describe us. I do see us as contemplative warriors, honor-bound by the simple and universal call to love. We are the Woodstock Warriors!
Cold Weather Plan
I’ve been considering what to do should we experience a cold weather extreme. I decided that I’m going to do whatever I can to get to church and serve whoever comes. I make this decision because it occurs to me that when we have a weather crisis, those most vulnerable are hit the worst…and people still need to eat when it’s snowing.
If there are a few of you who live close by and would be willing to walk over, we will help our neighbors the best we can. Let me know if you want to be part of this cold weather emergency response team. On days when a crisis hits, we can talk with each other and make a plan on-the-spot. Thanks!
A Little Break
I’m taking the week of December 26 off to catch my breath. We will still serve groceries and I’ll coordinate all that. Then, I’m going to do a little stay-vacation!
Hot Meals – New Volunteer Opportunity!
We are putting our teams together now! We’ve had great turnout of folks who are interested in participating. If you are interested, please contact me right away.Kristen Magis (503) 559-7726 or [email protected]You can also add your name to the December sign-up sheet.
We decided NOT to bring Hot Meals indoors until February. We don’t want to create a super spreader with the triple-demic! For those of you who will be involved, I’ll follow up with more information.
News from the Shifts
Thanks to Tim for getting us back in the pantry! All our stuff is moved back in there and we now have a double lock to protect our food!
Receiving – This Friday, we moved 2,552 lbs. of food from OFB.We were finally able to move food out of the Parish Hall (dining room) and back into our pantry!Receiving is great for those who like to lift and carry food and get a workout!
Packing – Our packing team filled 192 bags and included some holiday goodies as well! This team is perfect for folks who don’t do heavy lifting and who like a bit slower pace.
Distribution – Our distribution team worked outside this weekend and enjoyed the beautiful, if crisp, days!We are a wiz now on Link2Feed, which is speeding up the serving process.Distribution is fast-paced and requires that team members work tightly in sync with each other. It is also the shift wherein we have the closest contact with our neighbors, so customer service is the name of the game!
