Weekly Rector’s Note: Season of Change
Dear Saints,
It has been said that the only constant in life is change. But as we know, many people have a hard time with change and avoid it when possible. Change takes us out of our comfort zones because it means that life will soon look different.
Our faith, however, tells us that we don’t have to fear change. That change is a natural part of life woven into the fabric of creation. The author of Ecclesiastes reminds, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven” and that “God has made everything beautiful in its time.”
We are entering a season of changes at All Saints as we prepare for our Administrative Assistant, Cris’, retirement. As scriptures attest, this change is a part of life and does not have to make us anxious. In fact, building resilience as individuals and as a community comes from finding the opportunity in such times. For us, this is a chance to think about our priorities, current needs and hopes for our ministries and how our operations align to support them.
In this, and other recent staff transitions, the Vestry, other leaders and I have been considering emerging needs to restructure positions accordingly. With the opening in the Administrative Assistant position, and the areas Cris has helped us grow, we recognize the need for support in building maintenance, managing rentals and communications/graphic design in addition to traditional clerical support. We are looking at the possibility of dividing the work among separate positions, and also looking at what could be in the purview of lay leaders. As we’ve been in this process, it’s been rewarding to see the growth that has brought us here and to think about what God has in store for us next.
We are in the process of creating these new job descriptions and will begin the hiring process shortly thereafter. Cris will be with us through the end of this month. I hope you can join us on the 23rd as we celebrate her with a reception after the 10:15 service.
Just as we welcome the change in seasons, we can find the blessing of the moment we are in, knowing God is with us in it all.
In peace,
Andria+
