Rector's Note: Spending Time with Bishop Curry
February 5, 2021
Dear Saints,
This last week I had the privilege to join other clergy from across the diocese on a Zoom call with our Presiding Bishop, Michael Curry. It was wonderful to spend time with him, listen to his stories, and be encouraged by his message of love. It also made me appreciate how he is able talk about hard things while still enabling people walk away feeling good but inspired to do better. It was exactly what I needed.
And I wonder if we could all use a little time with Bishop Curry.
As many of us find ourselves COVID-frayed, in an in-between space where news about the virus seems to be getting better and worse at the same time, and dealing with all the other things we bring with us as we enter into Lent, reading Bishop Curry’s book, Love Is the Way: Holding on to Hope In Troubling Times, might be just what you need, as well. Here we all have an opportunity to be encouraged and challenged by Bishop Curry and get to hear some of his wonderful stories. Using this resource to study God’s love, understand how to live the way of love when it’s hard, and seek love's answer to all things is a great way to renew our faith as we look towards Easter.
This Lent, I hope you will join me in a parish wide book study of Love Is the Way. You can read it on your own, or take part in one of our book clubs. I am a few chapters in and have greatly enjoyed using it to pray and start the day with.
I look forward to spending time with you this Lent meditating on God’s love and encountering the power it has for each of us.
In peace,
The Rev. Andria Skornik
