Rector's Note: Christ the King & Thanksgiving
Dear Saints,
The holidays are upon us! Christmas lights are starting to go up in our neighborhoods. Grocery store displays are looking extra cheerful and abundant. And you can now buy chocolate Advent calendars and poinsettias.
I love the holidays, both secular and sacred. But I’m finding more and more how important it is to root myself in the sacred holy days so that I can be in a good space for our societal traditions and celebrations. I find this true of the Feast of Christ the King, which we celebrate this Sunday. This feast day is observed on the last Sunday in the liturgical calendar and commemorates Christ’s unique kingship — one marked by peace and humility. In my sermon, I’ll be talking about how celebrating Christ the King gives us an alternative, life-giving framework for going into Thanksgiving and the holidays.
Don’t forget that this Sunday is the last Sunday to have your picture taken at church after the services or to send on in before we print our picture directory.
Also, this week I will be preaching at Trinity Cathedral’s Thanksgiving Eve service at 5:30pm. All are welcome at this service, and I’d love to have anyone from All Saints come.
In peace,
Andria+
