Olivia Serril: Welcomed Artist to All Saints
Hi Saints,
This February, we're welcoming local Artist Olivia Serril to share her incredible paintings of places at All Saints. We'll welcome her with a fun Valentine reception on Sunday, February 12th, after the 10:15 service. Using oils, Google maps, meticulous detail and lots of time, Olivia recreates landscapes on canvas, translating her passion for the topographical world into a tangible, gorgeous work of art. It's so wonderful to host her artwork here, as our first solo show exhibit and an expression of the Woodstock Commons, where All Saints is a neighborhood hub of friendship, art, and culture.
If you went to Deb Miller's telling of the history of All Saints, then you heard about how important "place" is to All Saints. All Saints is deeply connected to a sense of serving the local, being local, and representing local. Which means that Olivia, a PNW lifer whose artworks connect place to canvas, is a perfect fit for our first solo show.
Here's her artist statement:
Olivia Serrill is an artist based in Portland, Oregon. In 2021 she began creating maps out of a desire to see what a satellite image would look like if it were painted. Using oils, she creates her own interpretation of each location in a style largely influenced by abstract and impressionist art.
On her endless list of places to paint next are Mexico City, Machu Picchu, Venice, Paris, and Zanzibar. Commissions of specific locations are always welcomed.
