Love, Justice & Peace
Dear Saints,
One of my favorites findings in grad school was stumbling on the sermons of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I knew about the "Letter from Birmingham Jail" and the "I Have a Dream" speech. But as a Christian, finding these profound writings inspired by our sacred texts was very meaningful.
This Sunday, we will hear parts of the sermon King gave at the National Cathedral and have prayers and hymns that lift up the values of justice, love and peace that he and other leaders of the Civil Rights Movement so passionately fought for. They are timely and worthy of our attention.
For a practical opportunity to make a difference in our own context, take a moment to read and respond to the Social Justice & Advocacy call to action for this week in opposition to mass deportations.
Next Sunday is the Annual Meeting, and the following week is the Crab Feed and Candlemas service.
Blessings to you this holiday weekend, remembering Dr. King's wisdom and encouragement: “We shall overcome because the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”
