Beautiful Things
Dear Saints,
In just a week's time, we will be hanging the new set of banners Artist in Residence Paige Lehmann created for our worship space. The banners have been dyed in a special technique involving almost a thousand small stones all hand tied and released. They will be a beautiful addition to a long tradition of banner making at All Saints. All of the banners you see in our worship space have been made by parishioners and rotate seasonally with the liturgical seasons.
Next Sunday we will commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Philadelphia Eleven, the first women in the Episcopal Church to be ordained, by screening the new film that tells their story. We will show the 90 min film in two parts -- the first half from 9:15am to 10:00am in the Parish Hall and then from 11:30 to 12:15pm. Coffee and refreshments will be served. There will also be an Evensong in celebration of the anniversary (August 2, 5 pm) at Trinity Cathedral and a showing of The Philadelphia Eleven and discussion (August 3, 2 pm), which are open to the wider community. No registration is necessary.
Lastly, in this week of increased political turmoil, divisiveness and uncertainty, please know that I am praying for you and the ways you and people you love might be affected. I encourage all of us to be praying for our country, its leaders and citizens. Prayer has a way of centering us in God's eternal, unchanging love. Have extra compassion for other people and yourself. And be looking for Christ everywhere. The glimmers of God's presence continue to be all around us, even in troubling times.
In peace,
Andria+
